Caddis Flies
Caddis flies make up a large portion of a trout and other fish species diets where the insects are present.
There is little else that is as
exiting as watching a fish smash a caddis floating downstream on the end of your line. Fish feed and target caddis
at all stages of their life. Caddis larva or larvae are found in most streams rivers and lakes. The larvae will
take advantage of any loose substrate to build a protective casing. The building materials include sand, reeds, sticks, stones and
leaves. The Caddis pupal stage is short, but when conditions are right, a feeding frenzy can ensue. Adults are the most
common patterns found, and patterns such as the Elk Hair Caddis(EHC) and the CDC & Elk have proven to be highly
effective and a great deal of fun to fish.
