The Vampire Leech is fast becoming a favorite leech pattern for anglers fishing lakes and ponds.  This version of the Vampire Leech was tied by pro fly tyer Jeremy Davies and utilizes UV straggle chenille, marabou tail, and a touch of crystal flash tied on a 2xl hook.

Although they can draw attention at any time of year, the Vampire Leech is best fished in late fall or early spring after the ice melts. Using a slow strip it's a great pattern for seeking hungry fish. It can also be fished with a dead drift presentation under an indicator, letting the actions of the water surface impart action to the fly.
